HOPE
By Keesa Wynne
Old friend, let me hear your voice.
Please comfort me– tell me I have no choice.
Hold my hand and wipe away these falling tears.
I have been so lonesome sitting here with my fears.
Promise to never leave me again, my dear.
You have been a trusted companion for all these years.
Old friend, do you know every time you and I part,
Your enemy, Hope, infiltrates my heart?
In my darkness, Hope tells me stories about you.
Despair, old friend, is what Hope says true?
Do you in fact know more than you pretend?
Are you really an enemy disguised as a friend?
Old friend, who am I without you?
Who will I turn to when I feel so blue?
Despair, do you hear my desperate cries?
I need your counsel, as you have always been so wise.
Without you, I sit in this darkness and cower.
Hope tells me I must abandon you to reclaim my power.
Old friend, I am about to implode.
This cannot be the end of our road.
How could you forsake me in this hour of need?
How could you let Hope plant this little seed?
Despair, do you have anything to say?
For Hope is here begging me to let it stay.
