"One of the marvels of the world is the sight of a soul sitting in a prison with the key in its hand." - Rumi
Collective suffering and discontentment are rooted in the belief that powerful external forces are denying our personal happiness, fulfillment and contentment. A belief so strong, we convince ourselves that we are helpless victims rendered incapable of charting our own course. We stay in loveless relationships; relinquish our dreams to jobs we have outgrown and now loathe; numb our pain and longing with countless addictions; cloak our insecurities in expensive homes, cars, clothes and masks; and codify our deepest desires with endless daydreams of “living our best lives.” We pacify ourselves, envisioning trips we will never take, epic love we will never manifest, careers rooted in purpose we will never pursue – all because we are convinced we are powerless.
Christianity has relentlessly preached that suffering is our divine inheritance - that “God will never give us more than we can handle.” Society has conditioned us to believe that life is hard; that you have to fight, suffer, and endlessly sacrifice for what you want; that happiness and true contentment, is just one promotion, raise, job, relationship or degree away. Yet, when we secure that coveted next promotion, raise, or relationship, we are immediately hit with a fleeting sense of happiness, eventually finding ourselves more miserable than before. All the sacrifice, all the time, all the effort, yet again, failed to deliver the promised holy grail: endless happiness, fulfillment and contentment. Rather than question our core belief, that external forces are driving our unhappiness and discontentment, we double down and set our eyes on the next goal, achievement, or relationship. Insanity.
How different would our lives be if we shifted our perspective, challenged our beliefs, truly believed we are solely responsible for our own happiness, and stepped fully into our power? Who would we be? What would we do? Who would we love? What would we achieve?
I am no self-help guru. I will never claim to have it figured out or to have the answers. I am a woman simply rebuilding her life after an epic collapse; a woman standing at the crossroads – consciously choosing to take a different path. To follow her heart. Ever convinced that our souls want to do more than dream; our souls want to soar!
Dare Your Soul to Soar™ is my commitment to this new journey – my accountability partner. A standing testament to one’s ability to transform, to live a soulful life, and to reap endless love, happiness and inner contentment.
